Application Range
Bentonite slurry is used as drilling initiating or spud mud instead of water for avoiding loss of circulation and strengthening borehole wall of upper formations.
Mud storage for routine drilling and treatment of down-hole troubles.
Formulation
Bentonite slurry is prepared with pre-hydrated bentonite and water. It can be slightly treated with necessary additives for obtaining desired properties

Spud Mud Replacement: This application uses specialized mud formulations in place of water during initial drilling stages to prevent circulation losses in unconsolidated upper formations, ensuring efficient wellbore stability from the start.
Borehole Stabilization: Designed to enhance the mechanical integrity of weak shale and sandstone zones by providing a protective barrier that minimizes formation damage and reduces the risk of wellbore collapse.
Mud Storage & Base System: Acts as a stable foundation for subsequent additive treatments, such as polymers, weighting agents, and other performance-enhancing materials, ensuring consistent mud properties throughout the drilling process.
Downhole Trouble Treatment: Proven effective in addressing common downhole challenges, including shale invasion, mud thickening, and moderate fluid loss events, helping to maintain drilling efficiency and minimize operational disruptions.
Ideal For: Particularly suited for onshore shale plays, shallow water wells, and pre-casing operations in high-permeability formations where maintaining wellbore stability and preventing fluid losses are critical.
Mud Thickening and Shale Invasion Management:
(1) Dumping and diluting with water to reduce viscosity and mitigate thickening effects.
(2) Addition of inhibitive electrolytes, such as sodium chloride (NaCl), calcium oxide (CaO), potassium chloride (KCl), or gypsum, to stabilize shale and prevent further invasion.
(3) Incorporation of polymeric encapsulators and/or flocculants to coat and isolate reactive shale particles, reducing their impact on mud properties.
(4) Operation of solids control equipment to remove excess cuttings and fines, maintaining optimal mud density and rheology.
