Functions and Characteristics

1.Preparation
1).Softening make-up water: If the water for mud-making contains high concentration of Ca²+ and/or Mg²+, a previous treatment with soda ash is needed so that a higher yield of mud and a satisfactory viscosity of the mud prepared could be obtained.

2).Bentonite prehydration: Mix the designed amount of bentonite, water and caustic soda or soda ash in the tank by circulating with pump and mud guns for 2~4 h then let the bentonite slurry to age for 16~24 h.

Add other chemicals desired if necessary.

2.Application

There are the following problems and the corresponding treating manners respecting bentonite slurry application.

Mud thickening and shale invasion:

(1) Dumping and diluting with water.

(2) Addition of inhibitive electrolytes—NaCl, CaO, KCl or gypsum.

(3) Addition of polymeric encapsulators and/or flocculants.

(4) Running of solids control equipment.

(5) Addition of thinners.

FL control: Addition of FL control agents—CMC, PAC, starch products etc.

√  During transportation, attention should be paid to moisture protection and packaging integrity. The product should be stored in a cool and dry place, with a shelf life of two years.
